DIAMOND COMPLEX SHOWS LITTLE GROWTH, 53 PERCENT CONTAINED

August 23, 204 11:20 a.m.

The Diamond Complex, burning in the Umpqua National Forest, has showed little growth, and is at 11,106 acres and 53 percent containment.

A UNF update said 24 of the original 30 fires in the complex are now 100 percent contained.

The Middle Fork in the northwest corner of Crater Lake National Park remains at 5,244 acres and is zero percent contained.

Rains in the area during the next several days will require firefighters to adapt to changing conditions and potential safety issues caused by heavy rains and lightning. In areas where firefighters can continue to access the fires, the rains are expected to moderate fire activity and allow for more direct firefighting tactics. Initial attack firefighters are also standing by to respond to new fires caused by lightning strikes as needed.

Fire updates:

*Pine Bench Fire: 3,943 acres and 36 percent contained

*Potter Fire: 3,416 acres and 6 percent contained

*Trep Fire: 545 acres and zero percent contained
