A transient was jailed after an overnight pursuit incident early Thursday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 1:30 a.m. deputies were headed to Raleigh Drive in Winston for a disturbance. A motorcycle passed the deputies at a high rate of speed heading northbound on Willis Creek Road near the intersection with Rice Creek Road. A deputy initiated his overhead lights and siren, and observed the motorcycle accelerate to a higher rate of speed. A pursuit ensued from Willis Creek Road, west on Brockway Road, out Lookingglass, to Dairy Loop Road and ended at the intersection of Dairy Loop and Coos Bay Wagon Road, where the rider lost control of the motorcycle and slid out.

The rider, a 28-year-old, eluded on foot, so a deputy deployed a taser. The first deployment was ineffective, but the second one was effective. The man was then taken into custody without further incident. He identified himself as Dusty Daniel. Daniel said he ran because of a parole warrant. The motorcycle he was operating was stolen. Daniel stated that he was told to take off on the motorcycle from an address on Raleigh Drive.

He went by ambulance to CHI Mercy Medical Center to be medically cleared before being taken to corrections. Daniel was charged with attempting to elude police in a vehicle and on foot, reckless driving and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was detained without bail.
