Melrose Road west of Roseburg is back open with traffic now using the new Conn Ford Bridge at the South Umpqua River.
Dan Latham of the Oregon Department of Transportation said the road had been closed at the South Umpqua River since July 21st as prime contractor Farline Bridge Inc. built roadway approaches to the new bridge and removed most of the bypass structure. Latham said the new bridge opened at 1:00 p.m. Friday.
The speed limit through the work zone will remain 35 miles per hour for the next two months while the contractor completes work and moves out. Latham said motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures, usually at night.
