Firefighters with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies dealt with the Goodrich Highway Fire north of Oakland on Saturday.
Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said at approximately 1:50 p.m. crews with DFPA, Oakland Rural Fire Protection District, Elkton Rural Fire Protection District, North Douglas County Fire and EMS, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a grass fire near the intersection of Goodrich Highway and John Long Road.
Pope said responders found a power pole on fire and a confirmed ¼ acre grass and brush fire between the railway and highway, moderately moving towards a building approximately 200 yards away. Due to the fire’s proximately, structural firefighters, coordinating with DCSO, activated a Level 2 evacuation.
Pope said Douglas Electric and railroad crews were on the scene assessing the area. The fire was 100 percent wet-lined and plumbed, with DFPA’s dozer pushing a trail around the perimeter.
The cause of the Goodrich Highway Fire is under active investigation.
