The seven fires of the Homestead Complex total 1,261 acres as of midday Saturday, with 4 percent containment.
An Umpqua National Forest update said a hotshot crew camped out near the Salmon 33 Fire, which is 142 acres, on Thursday and Friday nights to maximize opportunities to construct fire line during cooler evening and morning conditions, when the fire is less active. They are working with a hand crew to make progress creating direct line on the east side. Other resources are being shifted to that area to assist in completing the line on the east flank of the fire.
Heavy equipment crews are working on the east flank of the No Man Fire, listed as 424 acres, while crews are working with cooperators on the west flank.
The 371-acre Horse Heaven Creek Fire saw another active day on Friday. Crews are working to tie indirect line to existing roads on the south end of the fire.
Crews have completed indirect line and hoselay around the 104-acre Reynolds Butte Fire. Friday’s infrared flight revealed that there was more activity within the fire perimeter than in the last several days.
Two heavy equipment resources have begun work on the north side of the 125-acre Bullpup Fire to improve the 300 Road for use as a containment feature. The 61-acre Fuller Lake Fire remains unstaffed. The 34-acre Lost Bucket Fire remains in patrol and maintain status. The north side is contained.
Overall fire activity is expected to remain minimal, with weather continuing in a similar pattern over the weekend.
