A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tuesday for abundant lightning on dry fuels in most of southern Oregon.

An Urgent Fire Message from the National Weather Service said the warning area includes Douglas County east of Interstate Five, the Umpqua National Forest, Southern Oregon Cascades, Klamath Basin, and the Fremont-Winema National Forest.

Forecasters said isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible. Outflow winds with gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour. These outflow winds can travel up to 50 miles away from the thunderstorms that caused it.

Residents should avoid tossing burning cigarettes on the ground, parking hot vehicles on dry vegetation, and using equipment that can cause sparks. Follow all fire restrictions.

Those in the Warning area should gather their fire evacuation kit and familiarize themselves with their evacuation plan.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening.
