A missing at risk juvenile was located late Tuesday, following a search that lasted for much of the afternoon.

Early Tuesday afternoon, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said it was seeking the public’s assistance in locating 16-year-old Halo Bean of the Oakland area. Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said the teen had left his residence that morning on foot. O’Dell said he was last seen on video footage at the Pilot Flying J Travel Center in Rice Hill at about 12:00 p.m.

Halo was described as high functioning with an autism diagnosis. He was later seen driving a Ford F250 pickup, though reports varied as to where the boy might be.

O’Dell said at approximately 3:40 p.m. a detective located the pickup in Cottage Grove. A short time later, Halo was dropped off at his residence by a Seattle area couple where he was re-united with his family.

DCSO used its Douglas Alerts system to notify subscribed residents of the situation, via texts and phone calls.

DCSO was assisted by the Oregon State Police, Douglas County Emergency Management, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Cottage Grove Police Department, Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
