Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association dealt with a fire near Tenmile early Saturday.
Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said at approximately 1:10 a.m. first responders from DFPA, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Tenmile Rural Fire District, Lookingglass Rural Fire District and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a reported escaped vehicle fire near the 9900 block of Upper Olalla Road.
Pope said upon arrival at the scene, firefighters reported a fully engulfed RV along with an estimated half-acre natural cover fire, that was quickly climbing up the hillside in heavy timber. Crews were able to stop the fire’s spread by 3:30 a.m. Staff from the Coos Forest Protective Association, two contracted fallers, a water tender, and a 20-person hand crew were requested to assist with mop-up.
Pope said the fire was 100 percent trailed by 6:15 a.m. Crews remained on the scene performing mop-up until all heat and smoke were extinguished. The fire’s size was approximately 1.35 acres.
