The Roseburg Police Department is conducting a death investigation.

Public Information Officer Sergeant Daniel Allen said Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. RPD responded to an address in the 1100 block of Southeast Pine Street to conduct a welfare check on 77-year-old Samuel Steven Smeth. Allen said Smeth was found deceased inside his residence. Next of kin was notified.

Detectives from RPD, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon State Police responded to assist and will continue to investigate the matter with assistance from the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office. Allen said at this time, there is no known ongoing threat to the general public. No arrest has been made.
