A driver was taken to the hospital after a vehicle collision at a gas station Tuesday afternoon.
A Roseburg Police report said at 2:20 p.m. a 93-year-old from Winchester was traveling from his residence when he stated he began to feel tired. The man said he pulled into the Costco parking lot in the 100 block of Northeast Kenneth Ford Drive to look for a parking spot so he could rest. The driver told officers he did not remember anything beyond that point.
The man’s pickup traveled through the parking lot toward the gas station. It went up and over a large island with shrubbery and trees in it, then collided with the rear driver’s side of another vehicle. The pickup continued into one of the large supports for the overhead cover at the fuel pumps. The vehicle hit was pushed into a gas pump, causing damage to it. The support pillar sustained an unknown amount of damage.
The driver that caused the accident was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center via ambulance for observation. He was cited for careless driving and will be submitted for a Department of Motor Vehicles retest. His pickup was towed from the scene.
