The City of Oakland will have two council positions and the mayor position open for the general election to be held November 5th, 2024.

City Recorder Carolyn Shields said those who would like to obtain an election packet can contact her at city hall on Northeast Locust Street. Shields said they can also be obtained by email at: cityrecorder@oaklandoregon.org

All filing requirements must be completed by 5:00 p.m. on August 27th.

2024 CITY COUNCIL ELECTION

 

At the 2024 General Election on November 5, 2024, the positions of Mayor and two Councilor positions will appear on the ballot.  The filing period for interested candidates begins on June 1, 2024 and all filing requirements must be completed by 5:00 p.m. on August 30, 2024.

 

OPEN CITY OF OAKLAND POSITIONS

• All positions are non-partisan.
• Council positions are elected at large – meaning candidates may reside in any area of the city.
• Signed petition by not fewer than 20 electors.
• All positions are volunteer/non-paid.
• All terms will begin on January 1, 2025.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

 

To qualify as a candidate for Mayor or a City Councilor, you must be:

• A qualified elector under the laws and constitution of the State of Oregon and a registered voter of the City of Oakland; and
• A resident of the City of Oakland who has resided continuously in the City during the 12 months immediately preceding the election they are filing for.
