The Roseburg Public Schools Board of Directors appointed a new member Monday night to serve the remainder of the Position 3 term.
An RPS release said directors voted to appoint Keith Cubic to the board. Cubic will be sworn in during Wednesday’s regular school board meeting at Green Elementary School.
Cubic previously served as a board member for nearly 20 years and has served most recently as Roseburg Public Schools Budget Committee Chair. Following his retirement as Douglas County Planning Director, Cubic has continued to serve local governments part time. He is on the Roseburg High School Foundation Board, Office of Student Access and Completion Scholarship Committee, is active in Scouting America, and officiates youth and high school soccer.
The term for Position 3, formerly held by the late Rev. Howard Johnson, concludes June 30, 2025. The position will be up for election on the May 2025 ballot.
The district announced the school board vacancy on May 9th. An online form for interested candidates remained open for a week-long period. Three qualified candidates submitted applications and were briefly interviewed during Monday’s special meeting.
Board Chair Rod Cotton said, “Although not required, the Board agreed to solicit application from community members because we value transparency and community voice”. Cotton said, “We are grateful to everyone who applied and appreciate the interest in serving our students, families and community in this role”.
