On Tuesday, Douglas County Commissioners issued a proclamation for Peace Officer Memorial Day and Police Week in Douglas County.

The commissioners were part of the ceremony commemorating the day which took place in front of the courthouse. The annual event honors and remembers local law enforcement officers who perished while in the line of duty. Sheriff John Hanlin opened the event, extending his gratitude for the six local law enforcement officers who lost their lives while standing up for the safety and protection of others. He thanked the families of police officers and public safety officials past and present for their support and sacrifice.

Commissioner Chris Boice read a proclamation for the day and also proclaimed May 12-18 as National Police Week in Douglas County.

Following the ceremony, the commissioners presented proclamation certificates to a large group of local law enforcement personnel.
