Detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team arrested a 62-year-old man on Friday.
Lieutenant Rick McArthur said at approximately 12:00 p.m. DINT detectives were in the area of a business and residence in the 4,000 block of Hooker Road conducting a follow up investigation on a previous case.
McArthur said while there, detectives contacted 62-year-old John Hopkins, who had been living at the site for an extended period of time. Detectives discovered Hopkins is a registered sex offender, with a listed address in the Sutherlin area, rather than his actual address on Hooker Road. McArthur said registered sex offenders are required by law to report any change of address within ten days.
In addition, a search of Hopkins residence revealed two firearms which Hopkins is prohibited from possessing due to his status as a prior convicted felon. He was charged with a first-degree count of failure to report as a sex offender and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hopkins was detained without bail.
