Sutherlin Police jailed a man Saturday for an alleged prior assault.

An SPD report said while in the emergency room on February 20th, a victim reported that she had been assaulted by 57-year-old David Ippolito. Ippolito allegedly used a hammer to hit the victim’s legs. The victim had injuries on her legs consistent with being hit by a hammer.

A follow-up investigation was conducted and Ippolito was taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. Ippolito was detained without bail.
