WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY/WINTER STORM WARNING FOR TUESDAY

March 5, 2024 4:00 a.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10:00 a.m. Tuesday above 500 feet with a Winter Storm Warning in place until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday above 1,500 feet.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said for the Advisory, wet snow is expected above 500 feet with accumulations of up to 2 inches in the Umpqua Basin. For the Warning, heavy snow is expected with 2 to 6 inches and up to 12 inches over higher remote terrain.

The Warning area includes the passes on Interstate 5, the Tiller-Trail Highway and portions of Highway 138 east of Steamboat. The Advisory area is for elevations above 500 feet in the Umpqua Basin. It applies to Roseburg, Winchester and Sutherlin.

Forecasters said travel is strongly discouraged due to dangerous conditions. Those who must travel should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications and a fully charged phone with them.
