OAKLAND MAN JAILED AFTER ALLEGED DUII INCIDENT

An Oakland man was jailed after an alleged DUII incident early Thursday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 3:45 a.m. deputies were sent to a business in the 5100 block of Old Highway 99 South in Green after an employee witnessed the suspect’s vehicle crash into a gas pump after being denied alcohol at the store. 41-year-old Victor Haines was allegedly clearly intoxicated and reportedly attempted to get other customers to lend him their vehicle.

When a Winston Police officer arrived on the scene, Haines walked away but was quickly detained. During a DUII investigation, the man admitted to drinking but claimed he was never driving. Haines completed standard field sobriety tests, and allegedly showed signs of impairment. While a deputy attempted to place him into custody, Haines reportedly resisted before being placed into a patrol vehicle. On the way to jail, the man reportedly slipped his handcuffs and appeared to try and tie his boots together for an unknown reason.

While adjusting his handcuffs, Haines reportedly resisted again before the cuffs were adjusted. At corrections, he allegedly refused all other tests. A warrant for his blood was applied for and granted. Haines was escorted to a patrol vehicle, due to his combativeness.  At CHI Mercy Medical Center, he reportedly threatened medical staff and attempted to lose the vial of blood that had been taken.

Haines was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants-alcohol, resisting arrest, reckless driving and for a parole violation. He was detained on $2,000 bail.
