AUDUBON SOCIETY/LIBRARY TO STREAM CONSERVATION PROGRAM

January 25, 2024 3:40 a.m.

Umpqua Valley Audubon Society and Roseburg Public Library will have a Facebook Live streaming event with conservationist Paul Engelmeyer on Wednesday, February 7th at 6:30 p.m.

A City release said Engelmeyer will present “Land-Sea Conservation Issues and Strategies” covering topics such as marine reserves, salmon conservation efforts and the Endangered Species Act-listed marbled murrelet.

Engelmeyer’s love of fishing and forests brought him to the Pacific Northwest in 1975.

He has managed Portland Audubon’s Ten Mile sanctuaries since 1990. The basin is nestled between Cummins Creek and Rock Creek wildernesses south of Yachats and includes multiple parcels totaling 336 acres that are secure in conservation status. In 2012, the Cummins Creek/Ten Mile landscape unit was designated by Birdlife International as a globally significant area for the murrelet.

A moderated Q&A session will follow the presentation. Questions may be submitted before the event to library staff at: library@cityofroseburg.org, or by calling 492-7051. Viewers who have a Facebook account may post questions during the event by commenting on the live stream.
