A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7:00 p.m. Friday through 10:00 p.m. Saturday for parts of Douglas County and the south-central coast.

Forecasters said periods of freezing rain is expected.

The Advisory area includes northwest Douglas County including the cities of Curtin, Drain, Yoncalla, Elkton, Scottsburg and Reedsport. Affected roadways include portions of Interstate 5 and Highway 38.

Forecasters said freezing rain can quickly make solid surfaces slick and dangerous to travel across. Freezing rain can also weigh down branches and power lines, resulting in property damage or interruptions to power availability.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
