JUVENILE DETAINED FOR ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE-VEHICLE

Roseburg Police detained a juvenile after an attempted eluding incident early Friday.

An RPD report said at 5:10 a.m. there were multiple calls about vehicles being loud and possibly racing in the area of Northeast Newton Creek Road and Northeast Hughes Street. An officer responded to the area and captured a sedan on radar allegedly traveling at 53 miles per hour on Newton Creek.

The officer activated his emergency lights and the sedan drove off at a high rate of speed attempting to elude. The officer followed the vehicle which finally stopped on Hughes. There were six other juveniles in the sedan. The driver admitted to trying to flee from law enforcement.

All the passengers were given courtesy rides home and released to guardians. The driver, a 16-year old male, was charged with attempt to elude, reckless driving and six counts of recklessly endangering. He was taken to juvenile detention.
