The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has issued a sex offender notification – level III release for 44-year old Uriah Shawn Strauss.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said local law enforcement agencies have received multiple complaints from female community members who have received disturbing letters from Strauss. O’Dell said these letters are filled with sexually explicit content, causing alarm and apprehension regarding personal safety.

DCSO is asking anyone who has received similar letters from Strauss to contact law enforcement at 440-4471, especially if the recipient is under 18 years of age.

The DCSO release said in the past Strauss has requested assistance from women unknown to him and stalked them. Strauss reportedly targeted females, in public places, where he detained and attempted to sexually assault them.

O’Dell said in the past, Strauss contacted his victims through various media, including social media, phone book records, advertisements and magazine labels. He stalked them at work, by phone, mail and email. On two occasions, O’Dell said Strauss attempted to kidnap adult females for the purposes of sexual assault.

While not on parole or probation, Strauss is not allowed to communicate in any manner with a person under 18 years of age with the intent to commit a crime or for the purpose of arousing or satisfying the sexual desires of this individual or another person. Strauss may not remain in or upon premises where persons under 18 years of age regularly congregate.
