Sutherlin Police jailed a man Friday after a reported assault incident early Thursday.

An SPD report said just after 3:30 a.m. officers responded to a residence on West Pine Street. An adult female claimed she had been assaulted by 34-year old Josh Pitner.

Pitner reportedly refused to come out of the house at that time. On Friday morning shortly before 2:00 a.m. Pitner reportedly accidently shot himself in the leg while attempting to holster his gun. He was driven to CHI Mercy Medical Center in a private vehicle.

Officers arrested Pitner after he was released. He was charged with second and fourth degree counts of assault, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing. He was detained on $30,000 bail and was released later that day.
