A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for mountain areas of southern Oregon from 7:00 p.m. Saturday through Sunday at 10:00 a.m. above 4,000 feet.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said 7 to 14 inches of snow is expected above 4,000 feet. Some of the highest peaks could see amounts up to 18 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains and applies to Crater Lake and Diamond Lake as well as Highway 58 at Willamette Pass, Highway 62 and Highway 138.

The heaviest snow is expected early Sunday. Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches and combine with snow to lower visibility. Overnight lows Sunday night are expected to be in the low 20s, with flash freezing possible on wet roads.

Motorists should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
