COTTAGE GROVE MAN CHARGED WITH TRESPASSING/RESISTING

November 13, 2023 3:10 a.m.

A Cottage Grove woman was jailed following an alleged trespassing incident on Saturday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 9:15 p.m. a deputy observed a female trying to hide from him at a business in the 500 block of Bear Creek Road in Curtin. The deputy reportedly saw the woman go into a bathroom. An employee said the suspect was acting like she was on drugs and would not leave. He wanted her trespassed.

The deputy went to the bathroom and told the woman to come out but she refused. The deputy said he could hear her unwrapping things and went inside the bathroom to find her sitting on the ground eating. The deputy told her to leave but she again refused. The woman was told to get up, but refused the deputy for a third time. She allegedly started to pull away when he took control of her left arm, but he was able to place her into handcuffs.

58-year old Vickie Shanks was charged with second-degree counts of trespassing and disorderly conduct and for resisting arrest. Shanks was detained without bail.
