State Representative Christine Goodwin is continuing to call for the repeal of Measure 110.

A release from Goodwin said this week the Joint Committee on Addiction and Community Safety Response heard from law enforcement professionals about Oregon’s current public safety response to the drug addiction crisis. Goodwin said it reaffirmed that Measure 110 has severely restricted their ability to keep communities safe and has allowed for crime and open drug use to run rampant on Oregon’s streets.

Goodwin said, “Hearing directly from both law enforcement officials and public health providers while sitting on this committee in recent weeks has only reinforced that Measure 110 has failed us and it is time to make a change”.

Goodwin said Oregonians believed the measure would connect those suffering with addiction to sustainable treatment and that has not been the case. Goodwin said, “Meanwhile community safety has steadily declined by tying the hands of law enforcement. We should be taking immediate action and do what is necessary – repeal Measure 110 and move forward with solutions that will make a real impact on the drug addiction crisis”.

Goodwin said next week she will join Christine Drazan and others in Portland for a roundtable to further the conversation.
