October 26, 2:55 p.m.

An Oregon State Police trooper and a motorist were struck by a suspected impaired driver during a traffic stop east of Roseburg Thursday morning.

An OSP report said at about 7:30 a.m. a patrol sergeant stopped a motorist for a traffic violation on Highway 138E, facing westbound near milepost 10 which is about half-way between Roseburg and Glide.

During the traffic stop, an eastbound motorist crossed multiple lanes of travel and crashed-head on into the stopped vehicle. The operator of that vehicle was critically injured. The patrol sergeant only suffered minor injuries, and the suspect driver also only had minor injuries. All were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

The report said limited information is currently available due to the ongoing criminal investigation. OSP is conducting an investigation into the potential impairment of the driver who caused the wreck. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.

An update is expected when more information becomes available.
