A Freeze Warning and a Frost Advisory are in place for parts of central Douglas County from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Friday.

An Urgent Weather Message from the National Weather Service said the Freeze Warning includes Azalea and Tiller where sub-freezing temperatures as low as 29 degrees are expected. The Frost Advisory applies to Roseburg, Winchester, Sutherlin, Umpqua and Green. Temperatures down to 33 degrees will result in frost formation.

A Freeze Watch is also in effect from late Friday night through early Saturday morning for all of central Douglas County with temperatures as low as 27 degrees expected.

Forecasters said frost and freeze conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and could possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped and drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those with an in-ground sprinkler system should drain them and cover above ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
