A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon for the south-central Oregon coast, including parts of Douglas, Coos and Curry counties.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said that an increased threat of sneaker waves is expected.

Forecasters said waves can run up significantly farther on a beach than normal, including over rocks and jetties. These sneaker waves can suddenly knock people off of their feet and quickly pull them into the cold ocean waters, resulting in serious injuries or death. Waves may also lift driftwood logs, trapping anyone caught underneath.

Residents should avoid climbing on the rocks and jetties. Stay away from the ocean and remain out of the water to avoid hazardous conditions.
