Roseburg Police cited a man for a burning, camping and littering incident on Tuesday.

An RPD report said the 39-year old was called in due to a fire burning at his camp behind a business in the 400 block of Northeast Stephens Street at 3:20 p.m. Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to the camp and asked police officers to respond to address the issue after the fire was extinguished.

The ground in the man’s camp was covered with trash. It was about 20 feet away from a storm drain that empties into Deer Creek which is located about 75 feet away. Officers estimated that there were at least four large trash bags worth of food wrappers and paper trash in the camp. The fire was a pile of trash, which included numerous metal and plastic items. The man told officers he needed to burn the trash to get rid of it.

The report said officers have spoken to the man in the past about not being able to camp at the location due to Time, Place and Manner restrictions.

After receiving his citation, the man was issued trash bags and was working on bagging up the trash when officers left.
