Roseburg Police jailed a man after a DUII and pursuit incident on Sunday.
An RPD report said shortly before 5:30 p.m. officers responded to a business in the 500 block of West Umpqua Street after an employee said that a sedan had hit another employee’s vehicle as it left the facility. A few minutes later, dispatch received a call from a victim stating that their vehicle had been hit twice by the same vehicle. The suspect vehicle then left the area heading onto West Lookingglass Road at a high rate of speed.
It was followed until deputies were able to intercept it and a short pursuit ensued. The suspect stopped his sedan on Elgarose Road. 32-year old Samuel Renne of Sutherlin was taken into custody and reportedly showed signs of impairment. He consented to standard field sobriety tests and allegedly performed poorly. The man refused a breath test and a search warrant was granted for a blood draw.
Officers later learned that the driver whose vehicle was hit sustained neck pain and a painful headache from his vehicle being rear-ended by the suspect’s sedan.
Renne was charged with attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of reckless driving, a felony count of failure to perform the duties of a driver – property damage, a misdemeanor count of failure to perform the duties of a driver – injured persons and DUII. Renne was detained without bail.
