Near record high temperatures for the date are possible Friday and Saturday in the Umpqua Valley.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service told News Radio 93-9- FM and 1240 KQEN that the mercury is forecast to reach near 87 degrees at the Roseburg Regional Airport on Friday and near 90 degrees on Saturday. The record high for October 6th is 94 degrees, set in 1952. For October 7th, 92 degrees is the record high. That was set in 1936.

The brief hot streak means Roseburg’s high temperatures will be over 15 degrees above normal for this part of October, when the mercury normally tops out at around 73 degrees. Conditions cool slightly on Sunday when the high is slated to reach near 82 degrees. The weather pattern changes starting Monday as highs in the 60s to low 70s are likely along with frequent rain for the following ten days.  Forecasters say it is very unlikely that the Umpqua Valley will have another heat wave for the rest of the month.
