CFPA REMINDS THE PUBLIC THAT FIRE SEASON IS STILL IN EFFECT

September 25, 2023 10:10 a.m.

The Coos Forest Protective Association is reminding the public that fire season is still in effect and debris burning is still prohibited.

Public Information Officer Jef Chase said while a small amount of rain has been received over the past two months, fuels that spread fire will dry back out after a few days of sun and wind. Chase said CFPA is closely monitoring fuel and weather conditions to determine when it will be safe to end fire season.

Debris burning remains a leading cause of wildfires on the south coast. Debris burns become wildfires most commonly from:

*Burning too large a pile

*Not having control lines or resources

*Being left unattended

*Burning in windy conditions

*Burning in poor locations
