The final Roseburg Swift Watch of the season is Friday evening at Fir Grove Park in Roseburg.
Roseburg Parks and Recreation and Umpqua Valley Audubon Society are coordinating the event.
Thousands of Vaux’s Swifts continue to roost in the chimney of Umpqua Valley Art’s Clay Place behind the Arts Center along West Harvard Avenue. The birds have roosted at that location for decades as they make their annual fall southward migration to Central and South America for the winter. Residents are encouraged to arrive by around 6:30 p.m. The birds are expected to roost at around sunset which will be close to 7:15 p.m.
The evening will also be used for the Umpqua Valley Migratory Bird Celebration. Staff from federal and state agencies will join the Audubon Society to share information about the Vaux’s Swifts. Music will be featured as well.
