The Tyee Ridge Complex is 46 percent contained and listed at 7,847 acres as of Saturday morning.

The Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 3 assumed command of the complex Friday evening. 1,455 people are assigned to the fires.

The effective securing of control lines and structure protection of firefighters prompted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to downgrade evacuation levels in several areas of the complex. Level 2 (Be Set) and Level 1 (Be Prepared) evacuation notices are still in effect. View the current evacuation information map at: www.dcso.com/evacuations.

Crews continued to work through the night early Saturday, mopping up and mitigating overhead hazards from recent tactical burning operations. Fire personnel secured lines around homes in the Briarwood area and along Hubbard Creek Road. Patrol continues through all hours supporting suppression and mop up. Crews on the western perimeter of the Cougar Creek Fire continued to secure control lines.

Saturday, expected weather conditions and fire behavior may be favorable for tactical firing operations in the area southwest of Grier Reservoir. Smoke output from firing operations may be visible.

In many areas of the fire, crews are mopping up 100-200 feet in from the fire perimeter. Meeting these 200-foot standards is necessary to reduce the likelihood of any fires escaping the established containment perimeter. Infrared equipment continues to be utilized to verify the security of fire perimeters. Helicopter water drops will support fire crews securing the control lines and moving further into burnt areas.
