TYEE RIDGE CONTAINMENT APPROACHES 50 PERCENT

Containment is approaching 50 percent on the Tyee Ridge Complex, burning 20 miles northwest of Roseburg.

The complex is listed at 7,577 acres and is 44 percent contained. 1,707 people are assigned to the fire.

An update from the Northwest Incident Management Team 1 said Thursday night firefighters secured the fire line and patrolled areas around homes near the northeast corner of the Cougar Creek Fire. Crews detected one spot fire, and quickly lined and mopped it up. Crews patrolled and mopped up from the firing operations around homes on the southwest corner near Hubbard Creek Road as well. Other areas in the Tyee Ridge Complex remain in mop up and patrol status. The infrared drone flew Thursday night detecting hot spots during the operations.

Cooler temperatures with a higher humidity meant that smoke lingered in the valley. Fire behavior may increase with warmer temperatures Friday, Residents may see more smoke.

Fire crews are working on hazard tree mitigation and continuing with mop up. Additional firing operations may take place to secure the fire’s perimeter. Helicopters will be supporting fire crews with water buckets as firefighters secure the control lines.
