Firefighters continue to secure and control the fire perimeter on the Tyee Ridge Complex, 20 miles northwest of Roseburg.
The fire is listed at 7,366 acres and is 35 percent contained. 1,654 people are assigned to the fires.
An update from the Northwest Incident Management Team 1 said on the Cougar Creek and Lighthouse Fires, the night shift crews concentrated on mopping up and controlling the lines where firing operations occurred during the day. During the evening, engines patrolled Hubbard Creek Road. Personnel continued strengthening control lines and mitigating hazards through the night.
Wednesday’s dry weather should allow firefighters to continue tactical firing operations on the Cougar Creek Fire. Crews may see consumption of larger fuels as tactical firing works through the green pockets in the fire’s interior. On the western perimeter of the Cougar Creek Fire, crews continue mop up and mitigating hazards along Bear Creek Road. To the south, crews are preparing dozer lines near Grier Reservoir for potential firing operations.
The update said operational priority continues to shift away from the firefight to mopping up. Crews are still facing hazards working in burnt areas where fuels have been previously consumed. Firefighters are contending with steep terrain, overhead hazards and underground burn pockets.
