This is Labor Day and there are a number of closures.

Federal, state, county and city offices are not open. No regular mail will be delivered. Schools are not in session. Banks and credit unions are closed. UPTD buses are not operating. Most professional offices are not open. Many retails stores are open.

Labor Day became a national holiday in 1894 when President Grover Cleveland signed a law passed by Congress to designate the first Monday in September as a holiday for workers. Oregon was the first state to pass a law recognizing Labor Day in 1887.
