Covering coastal Douglas County:
A California man was jailed following an alleged elude incident on Saturday night.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said shortly after 11:00 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop an ATV north of Banshee Hill near Sand Camp in Winchester Bay. The driver was allegedly interfering with a traffic stop being conducted by other deputies on the sand. The man was reportedly driving through the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.
The report said after the driver saw deputies behind him with lights and siren on, he continued to elude. 39-year old Sergey Kharchenco of Sacramento, eventually stopped but allegedly resisted arrest. Deputies conducted standard field sobriety tests and used the intoxilyzer. The man reportedly had a blood alcohol level of .06 percent. He was cited and released for DUII. Kharchenco was then taken to jail charged with a felony count of attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and interfering with a police office. He was detained without bail.
