Sunday night just after 7:00 p.m. crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and Lookingglass Rural Fire District responded to a half-acre fire near the 500 block of Sunrise Lane in the Melrose area.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was smoldering in dead and down trees and emitting a column that was visible around Melrose. Responding firefighters knocked the forward spread of the fire down quickly and by shortly after 8:00 p.m. the fire was 100 percent plumbed and 50 percent lined. The fire was transferred into patrol status after mop-up.

The cause of the Sunrise Lane Fire is under investigation.
