A Canyonville man was jailed for alleged menacing on Monday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 10:00 p.m. a witness claimed that 68-year old Dale Hitt had pointed a pistol at him and at another individual in the 800 block of Stanton Park Road in the Canyonville area. The suspect and the victims all lived on the same property, but in different houses and trailers.

After an investigation it was determined that Hitt had committed the crime. He was taken into custody and the firearm was seized. Staff with the Department of Human Services were notified as there were children present.

Hitt was charged with two counts each of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon and pointing a firearm at another person. He was held on $5,000 bail and was released on Tuesday.
