Motorists should expect congestion and delays along Redwood Highway, also known as U.S. 199, between Cave Junction and the California border for the next three weeks as paving work is underway.

An Oregon Department of Transportation release said construction requires closures both day and night each weekday. Traffic control will be provided by flaggers and pilot cars. Most delays will be less than twenty minutes.

Prime contractor Knife River Materials will grind and pave the highway between Cave Junction and O’Brien on weeknights, Sunday evening through Friday morning. Additional work, such as installing safety features and performing electrical work, will take place during daylight hours.

The release said on the week of August 21st to the 25th, contractors will apply a chip seal between O’Brien and the California border. This work will take place during daytime hours. Due to loose rock on the roadway, drivers are advised to slow down and allow additional space between vehicles.

The final week of the month may involve striping, cleanup and other work.

This $8.5 million project will also add safety features to Redwood Highway and apply a chip seal to an eight-mile section of Oregon 42 near Winston.
