Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 dealt with a fire northwest of Roseburg on Saturday night.

DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said the fire was estimated to be two to three acres in size, and was a fast-moving grass fire near the 400 block of Fisher Road.

Pope said crews immediately took action and divided the aggressive attack, with ground crews from Fire District No. 2 on the right flank and DFPA attacking the left. DFPA’s aviation immediately took flight, with an air attack and a helicopter. Bucket drops were able to knock down the forward spread of the fire which was quickly heading to nearby homes. Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to assist with traffic control. As of 8:45 p.m. one hundred percent of the fire was trailed and sixty percent was mopped up.

Crews, including a DFPA dozer, remained on scene performing mop up until the area was cleared.

Pope said the Fisher Fire was human caused and is under investigation. Due to the coordinated response and quick action from all responders, no structures or homes were damaged by the fire.

Fire danger is high throughout the Douglas District.
