Aerial reconnaissance continued late Friday for the eight fires caused by lightning storms which hit the Douglas District late Thursday and early Friday.

Rachel Pope of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said as of 8:00 pm. Friday seven of the fires have been one hundred percent trailed and mopped up. Pope said crews are continuing engagement on the Buckhorn Fire, two miles west of Interstate Five in the Azalea area.

As of 6:30 p.m. Friday that fire is one hundred percent trailed and ten percent mopped up. Crews planned to continue mopping up on the estimated one-acre fire throughout the night, until cleared.

Saturday’s morning shift will continue with heat and smoke checks from both the air and the ground. All fires continue to be in remote, wildland areas, with no homes or structures threatened.
