Roseburg Police jailed a man after reported shoplifting on Saturday.

An RPD report said at 10:15 a.m. a 50-year from Roseburg allegedly gathered about $500 worth of tools into a bucket and pushed his way out of the rear fire door at Lowe’s in the 3300 block of Aviation Road, causing the fire alarm to sound.

A citizen chased after him, so he dropped the stolen merchandise and ran to a nearby business, where he jumped into a stranger’s vehicle, thinking it was his friend’s getaway car. The citizen reportedly pinned the suspect’s leg in the door and ultimately got the man out of his vehicle before officers arrived. The man admitted to the theft and to getting into the vehicle. He requested to be taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center.

Neither Lowe’s nor the citizen wished to pursue charges for the incidents. Officers waited for the man to be discharged from ER and then arrested him for second-degree disorderly conduct. He was detained on $2,000 bail.
