An Elkton man died in a highway wreck west of Sutherlin early Tuesday morning.

An Oregon State Police report said at approximately 4:35 a.m. troopers responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 138W, near milepost 19.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV, operated by 36-year old Christopher Waddell, was traveling eastbound when for unknown reasons the vehicle veered across the westbound lane of travel, exited the westbound shoulder of the highway and rolled multiple times before coming to an uncontrolled stop on it’s top, partially blocking the westbound lane of travel.

Waddell was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.,

OSP was assisted by the Sutherlin Fire Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
