On Saturday, Umpqua National Forest South Zone Fire resources swiftly responded to a car fire on South Umpqua Road in rural south Douglas County.

A UNF release said the incident unfolded after emergency services received a distress call regarding the fire. Upon arrival, responders discovered that the driver had sustained injuries as a result of the car accident. Given the severity of the injuries, the driver was swiftly airlifted to receive necessary medical attention. The vehicle was fully engulfed and the fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation.

In addition to South Zone Fire resources, personnel from the Tiller Volunteer Fire Department, Milo Volunteer Fire Department and the Douglas Forest Protective Association joined forces to combat the fire and treat the injured driver. Their united efforts facilitated a rapid response, resulting in the containment of the fire at one acre.

The release said South Zone Fire resources and partnering agencies continue to remain vigilant in monitoring resources and ensuring public safety. Drivers are urged to be proactive in minimizing risks and report any emergencies promptly.
