The Little Wolf Fire, burning in the Umpqua area, is now forty percent mopped up.

Rachel Pope of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said Sunday’s night shift was set to perform sweeps using thermal imaging cameras to identify hot spots throughout the burn scar. Pope said Monday crews will continue with mop up, working to eradicate any heat that was picked up by Sunday night’s reconnaissance.

The fire size has been confirmed at 12.9 acres.

Pope said once crews have deemed the fire area cleared, heat and smoke checks will be performed for several days thereafter.

Pope said DFPA would like to thank all the additional resources that quickly responded to assist with the Little Wolf Fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Pope said heavy drift smoke in the Umpqua Valley is coming from the Flat Fire in Curry County.
