Roseburg Police jailed a man after an alleged assault, led to a freeway chase Friday morning.

Initial information from RPD said at about 6:30 a.m. officers responded after a caller said there had been a disturbance in the 2000 block of Northeast Stephens Street. A victim said that 32-year old Kenneth Trotter punched her in the face repeatedly after she woke him up for work. When officers arrived, Trotter fled the scene and tried to elude officers during a traffic stop.

Trotter continued north on Interstate Five. His sedan was spiked near Rice Hill by a deputy from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and an officer from Sutherlin Police. He was taken into custody and allegedly showed obvious signs of intoxication. A search warrant was granted for his blood and he was detained on charges of fourth-degree assault, attempting to elude police in a vehicle and for second degree criminal mischief.

More information is expected later from RPD.
