To help celebrate National Forest Week, the Umpqua National Forest and the National Forest Foundation are having a trail work party on the Panther segment of the North Umpqua Trail on Saturday.

Trail work will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Those participating should meet at the Mott Trailhead. Work will include tread work, clearing overgrown vegetation, cutting out logs and more. Saw certification is required for those using chainsaws.

This trail was severely burned in the Archie Creek Fire of 2020 and presents some hazards beyond the normal scope of trail work. This includes poor footing, debris in the trail, creek crossings where logs were burned and increased poison oak.

Those helping should bring water, food, long sleeves/pants, closed toed shoes, and sun screen.

The day will conclude with a pizza party at 3:00 p.m. at Coho Pizza on the North Umpqua Highway in Glide.
