Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man after a reckless burning incident Monday night.

A DCSO report said at 11:00 p.m. the deputy was traveling west on Southeast Washington Street in Roseburg when he observed a fire in dry grass at the intersection with West Madrone Street. A 36-year old male transient was next to the fire and said “you’re welcome” when the deputy exited his vehicle. The suspect walked off while the deputy and a civilian tried to extinguish the fire.

The Roseburg Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Roseburg Police Department units contacted the man down the road and detained him. He was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and for reckless burning. The man was detained without bail.
